This program is designed for students currently pursuing an associate or technical degree, who have completed a portion of their curriculum, and will be completing their program after the internship experience. It is not designed for graduates. The successful applicant will be support as a diesel / auto mechanic on scrapers, blades, dozers, haul trucks, miscellaneous small equipment and light vehicles. The internship positions are for 3-month (May 2027 through August 2027) or 8-month (May 2027 through December 2027) durations. Duties at the surface coal mine will be wide and varied, based on needs of the operation. These duties may include all or some of the following: Perform safety inspections and corrections. Perform mechanical work on heavy equipment and small diesel engines. Remove and install engines and components. Assemble and disassemble engines, brake adjustments, repair clutches and wheel bearings. Perform general repairs on trucks, tractors and light vehicles. Perform engine tune ups and field work. Service, operate and test large equipment. Clean the shop. Perform job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures, and state and federal environmental regulations. Other duties as assigned.
