About The Position

This course, PED 3526 Section I00, focuses on the initiation to teaching one or more disciplines in the intermediate and senior cycles, considering student growth and development stages. It explores the subject matter's contribution to these developmental stages, the theoretical framework for learning the discipline, and pedagogical implications. The course involves critical study and interpretation of program requirements at various difficulty levels, analysis and application of teaching strategies, methodologies, and techniques specific to the subject matter, and preparation and use of subject-specific teaching materials. It also includes practical application scenarios, student measurement and evaluation, and addressing individual needs.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Education required; a Ph.D. in Education is preferred.
  • At least one of the following: Recent full-time teaching experience in a school or administration within a school board, including 2 years of implementing the Ontario curriculum for the course subject with a specialist qualification for the course subject; OR Current and peer-reviewed research record for the course subject; OR Recent Ph.D. comprehensive exam for the course subject.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the current Ontario Curriculum related to the course subject and Ontario Ministry of Education documents related to the course subject.
  • Proven ability to apply the Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics of the Ontario College of Teachers.
  • An equivalent level of education and/or experience may be considered.
