About The Position

The DIC Ultrasound Tech - Reg position involves preparing patients for examinations, performing ultrasound procedures, monitoring patient conditions, maintaining records, performing minor equipment repairs and calibration, and managing inventory and supplies. The role requires a thorough understanding of anatomy, physiology, and diagnostic ultrasound physics, as well as familiarity with medical and surgical diseases. The technologist must be able to obtain optimal test results, differentiate artifacts from normal or pathological processes, and ensure proper techniques are employed. Additionally, the role includes consulting with radiologists, documenting procedures accurately, and troubleshooting equipment issues.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Technology program, required.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography, required.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, physics of diagnostic ultrasound and familiarity with pertinent medical/surgical disease, required.
  • Previous ultrasound technologist experience, required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient for examination, including positioning and explaining procedures to relieve anxiety.
  • Sets up equipment for specific procedures in a timely manner.
  • Performs ultrasound procedures, recognizing significant structures, differentiating artifacts, and ensuring proper views and techniques.
  • Determines the need for more extensive evaluations beyond preliminary instructions.
  • Obtains pertinent radiological and diagnostic exam reports for physician correlation.
  • Consults with referring radiologist regarding patient history and appropriate ultrasonic procedures.
  • Correlates clinical history to ascertain the appropriate procedure is performed.
  • Monitors patient condition during the examination, observing for changes and reporting any abnormalities.
  • Maintains records and logs exams performed, including accurate documentation and labeling of studies.
  • Ensures proper documentation of real-time studies on videotape.
  • Performs minor repairs and frequent calibration checks, and adjusts ultrasound equipment as necessary.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical problems of the equipment and reports major issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintains control of inventory and purchases of supplies for the assigned area.
  • Checks completeness of purchase order requisitions.
  • Reviews stock levels, storage locations, and utilization of film inventories and medical/surgical supplies.
  • Performs related duties as required.
