Assists nursing staff with patient care by recording patient information, preparing supplies and equipment, initiating patient on dialysis with an AV fistula or AV graft, and monitoring and responding to patient’s condition to ensure activities meet department policies and procedures and patient’s needs. Serves as a member of a dialysis team providing patient care by preparing patients for treatment, initiating patients on dialysis with an AV fistula or AV graft, monitoring and observing the patient during treatment, and collecting and delivering specimens to ensure activities meet patients’ needs. Sets up dialysis machine, makes appropriate machine tests, and monitors machine operation ensuring procedures meet department guidelines. Documents treatment and updates information into the computer to ensure records reflect up-to-date information. Maintains a positive working relationship with hospital staff and employees, and patients to ensure that effective communication is maintained and cultivated. Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings reads journals and maintains state certification as a clinical hemodialysis technician and CPR certification. Integrates this knowledge as appropriate into the job. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer (external as well as external) satisfaction. Makes recommendations to the technical staff and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals and mission of the PHHS. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the Dialysis area. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
