This position involves performing various patient care activities and related services essential for the comfort and safety of patients, considering their age and cultural background. The Dialysis Associate works under the direct supervision of a professional nurse, carrying out delegated duties.

Requirements

• High School or GED Required.
• Hemodialysis Technologist/Technician. Certification is required upon hire OR within 18 months of continuous employment as a Dialysis Associate or Technician in any dialysis facility Required.
• Excellent communication skills (both written and oral), interpersonal, problem solving, critical thinking skills Required.
• Basic computer skills Required.
• Knowledge of regulatory and WUH policies governing safety standards, infection control, and patient belongings Required.
• Dialysis Tech - Cert, Clinical Hemodialysis Tech-Ct

Nice To Haves

• 1-2 years Nursing Assistant or equivalent Preferred.
• Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Provides and facilitates activities of daily living for patients in accordance with the plan of care and dialysis unit flow, addressing patient issues with the nurse.
• Transports patients to and from the treatment area.
• Collects stool, urine, or sputum specimens.
• Assists with patients' nutritional needs.
• Takes down used dialysis disposable equipment.
• Cleans and/or disinfects dialysis machines and hemodialysis machine stations.
• Takes vital signs and performs EKGs.
• Obtains and records patient weight.
• Assembles equipment for nursing staff to initiate treatment.
• Reports machine malfunctions to the service company immediately.
• Assists with patient discharge as instructed and guided by the RN.
• Performs and records daily monitoring of the water treatment system's operating parameters, including total chlorine testing.
• Assists with patient care treatments utilizing aseptic technique and universal precautions as per WUH policy and procedure.
• Assists with cannula needle removal and aseptic bandaging of needle sites.
• Participates in quality improvement activities.
• Supports coworkers in accomplishing daily activities and tasks necessary for meeting patient and family needs.
• Participates in the orientation of patients and families.
• Attends staff meetings and in-services or obtains information presented.
• Responds to customer needs.
• Ensures completion of patient care assignment in an organized, efficient manner.
• Assists patients, families, visitors, and healthcare team members by answering questions, delivering messages, and providing information within the scope of the position.
• Reports all changes in patient condition and pertinent patient information to the nurse, manager, or designee promptly.
• Recognizes and responds to issues that may cause problems and/or refers issues through the proper chain of command utilizing the escalation policy.
• Recognizes the family as defined by the patient and incorporates family-centered care in daily practice.
• Documents legibly.
• Maintains open channels of communication through intra and inter-shift reporting.
• Participates in maintaining a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment, including security of patient belongings.
• Ensures appropriate emergency equipment is present and operational.
• Responds to emergency situations.
• Is cognizant of the SEOP plan and participates in implementing the plan as required.
• Promotes and maintains patient safety.
• Maintains call bell within patient reach.
• Answers patient calls promptly.
• Orients and re-orients patients to the patient care unit as needed.
• Responds to emergency situations as appropriate.
• Utilizes proper body mechanics when moving patients or equipment.
