About The Position

The Special Education Diagnostician Intern will complete required university practicum or internship hours under the supervision of a certified Educational Diagnostician or Special Education Administrator at Texans Can Academies. The intern will gain hands-on experience in the evaluation process for students with disabilities, including conducting assessments, assisting with eligibility determinations, supporting individualized education program (IEP) development, and collaborating with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with federal and state special education regulations.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a master’s program in Special Education, Educational Diagnostician, or related field from a Texans Can Academies–affiliated university program
  • Recommended by an affiliated university program for field placement at Texans Can Academies
  • Working to complete a diagnostician practicum or internship placement
  • Foundational coursework in special education law, assessment, and evaluation procedures
  • Understanding of learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, and other exceptionalities
  • Ability to interpret and apply federal (IDEA) and state regulations related to special education services
  • Familiarity with academic, cognitive, and behavioral assessment tools and data collection methods
  • Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with students, parents, and staff from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical practice
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Gmail, and student information systems

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the administration and scoring of standardized academic and cognitive assessments under supervision
  • Assist in gathering and organizing student data, including teacher input, parent information, and prior testing results
  • Support the development of Full and Individual Evaluations (FIEs) and related documentation
  • Observe and collaborate with diagnosticians, teachers, and related service providers during IEP meetings
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with timelines, documentation, and confidentiality standards
  • Attend and participate in supervision meetings with the assigned field supervisor
  • Engage in case study discussions and professional development opportunities as directed
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with students, staff, and families
  • Other duties as assigned by supervising diagnostician or campus administrator
