About The Position

The Diagnostic Ultrasound Technologist position involves performing a variety of routine to complex diagnostic ultrasound procedures, including common and special ultrasound exams of moderate to high difficulty. This role provides direct assistance to physicians with diagnostic and special ultrasound procedures. The technologist is responsible for delivering exceptional patient care, adhering to established ultrasound exam standards and guidelines to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service. This position is a member of the direct patient care team. For the II level, the role also serves as a mentor and trainer to junior technologists and students, exercising sound judgment and advanced clinical skills on challenging procedures. The position also involves promoting a positive work environment, collaborating with the patient care team, and utilizing peer-to-peer accountability. Responsibilities include optimizing protocols for patient care, image quality, and patient experience, as well as assisting physicians during procedures and maintaining sterile techniques. The role also involves identifying and reporting opportunities for improvement in quality and safety, including LEAN opportunities and near misses.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited ultrasound program
  • 0+ years of experience (for I level)
  • American Heart Association (BLS)
  • Any one of the following credentials: American Registry for Radiology Technologist (ARRT-VS), American Registry for Diagnostic Sonography (RDMS-OB/GYN), American Registry for Diagnostic Sonography (RDMS- AB), American Registry for Diagnostic Sonography (RDMS-RVT), American Registry for Diagnostic Sonography (RDMS-PS), American Registry for Diagnostic Sonography (RDMS-MSKS), American Registry for Diagnostic Sonography (RDMS- BR)
  • Associates of Applied Science (for II level)
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (for II level)
  • 3+ years of experience (for II level)

Responsibilities

  • Works independently to complete a variety of routine diagnostic ultrasound procedures to include common and special ultrasound exams of moderate complexity.
  • Provides direct assistance to physicians with all diagnostic and special ultrasound procedures.
  • Delivers exceptional patient care and adheres to ultrasound exam standards and guidelines established by governing agencies to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service.
  • Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures to include common and special ultrasound exams of high complexity.
  • Optimizes protocols to provide better patient care, image quality and patient experience. This includes positioning, physiology, procedure preparation and technical factors.
  • Assists physicians during diagnostic procedures or special ultrasound procedures, including assisting with sterile technique.
  • Utilizes AIDET incorporating Key Words and MANGAGE UP techniques, when speaking to patients and family members at an age-appropriate level.
  • Follows safety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly.
  • Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures.
  • Complies with job role, department and hospital safety standards, practices and policies.
  • Identifies LEAN opportunities and WASTE, providing recommendations, and contributes to meeting department and hospital targets for quality and safety.
  • Reports near misses and inputs errors promptly into appropriate hospital patient safety reporting system to improve processes and identify trends.
  • Promotes a positive work environment.
  • Collaborates with all members of the patient care team.
  • Guides and mentors Ultrasound Technologist I and students to help build confidence in skills, knowledge and abilities.
  • Uses peer-to-peer accountability towards department goals for retention and employee engagement.
