About The Position

Under the direction of the Manager of Imaging and Testing, provides expert and reliable testing to the Department of Ophthalmology’s patients and the medical staff’s educational and research needs. This role involves performing various diagnostic tests for patients, assisting with patient care duties, understanding medical complications, maintaining confidentiality, and supporting clerical and training functions. The specialist will also troubleshoot testing systems, manage data archiving, and assist with equipment maintenance and teaching material preparation, all while upholding the mission and philosophies of the Institute.

Requirements

High school degree or GED
Strong customer service skills.
Exceptional communication skills.
Must exhibit professionalism.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Must be able to provide independent testing coverage in satellites, therefore reliable transportation is a necessity.
Compliance with Departmental Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Mandatory Flu shot annually (based on department guidelines.)

Responsibilities

Perform testing for patients including Humphrey visual field, OCT (optical coherence tomography), fundus photography, and a-scan.
Assist with patient duties (dilating eyes, retrieving records, calling doctors, moving patients.)
Understand adverse medical complications associated with eye medications.
Maintain patient confidentiality.
Assist with clerical and medical record duties.
Assist in training diagnostic testing personnel.
Troubleshoot the testing computer system.
Archive data on the server routinely.
Assess and repair or arrange for repair of photographic equipment.
Assist in the preparation of teaching materials.
Understand, practice and promote the mission and philosophies of the Institute.
Other duties as assigned.
