About The Position

As a Diagnostic Technologist, you will perform a variety of diagnostic imaging procedures utilizing ionizing radiation to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This role requires independent judgment, technical expertise, and a strong commitment to providing exceptional patient care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an ARRT-approved School of Radiologic Technology; or Verification of successful completion of an ARRT-approved radiologic technology program with a scheduled graduation date.
  • ARRT Registry Eligible as a Radiologic Technologist upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.
  • CPR certification must meet American Heart Association (AHA) standards, including both didactic and hands-on skills demonstration, within 30 days of hire.
  • For positions located in New York State: Must hold certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB), as applicable.
  • For positions located in New York State: Must maintain the appropriate New York State Department of Health licensure.
  • If practicing under a temporary permit: Must work under the direct supervision of a licensed Radiologic Technologist.
  • If practicing under a temporary permit: Must obtain ARRT certification within 180 days of the permit issuance date.

Nice To Haves

  • Technologists hired prior to graduation may be employed under indirect supervision of an ARRT-certified Diagnostic Technologist until graduation is verified.
  • Technologists may not work independently in an outpatient setting until ARRT certification has been obtained.
  • ARRT (R) certification must be obtained: Within 6 months of hire or transfer for Diagnostic Technologists hired on or after January 1, 2025.
  • ARRT (R) certification must be obtained: Within 12 months of hire or transfer for Diagnostic Technologists hired before January 1, 2025.
  • Temporary permits expire: 180 days from issuance, Upon denial of licensure application, or Ten days after notification of failure of the licensing examination, whichever occurs first.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately identify patients using two patient identifiers and follow universal protocol standards for all procedures.
  • Review physician orders, patient history, and departmental protocols to ensure appropriate imaging studies are performed and optimal diagnostic images are obtained.
  • Document patient history and relevant information in the electronic medical record as required.
  • Administer oral and rectal contrast agents in accordance with physician orders and departmental policies.
  • Ensure examinations are accurately coded, tracked through the RIS system, transmitted to PACS/iSite for interpretation and archiving, and appropriately charged.
  • Perform diagnostic radiography procedures according to established protocols with minimal supervision.
  • Operate imaging equipment to acquire, analyze, manipulate, and document image data while maintaining high-quality imaging standards.
  • Adjust imaging techniques and protocols as appropriate, utilizing independent judgment and technical expertise to produce optimal diagnostic results.
  • Clearly explain procedures to patients, answer questions, and provide reassurance to promote patient comfort and cooperation.
  • Build positive relationships with patients, providers, and coworkers by demonstrating professionalism, compassion, dignity, and respect.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and other departments to ensure efficient, high-quality patient care.
