About The Position

The Diagnostic Technologist/Medical Assistant position is responsible for registering patients, collecting payments, rooming patients, assisting providers with care and treatment, discharging patients, and following-up. This role guides patients and guests through their entire experience to ensure clinical excellence, reduce treatment times, and maximize patient satisfaction before, during, and after the visit. The position involves assisting the provider with both front office and back office duties in the outpatient management of patients on a rotating basis. As a patient advocate, the role requires continuous contact with providers, patients, patient families/significant others, community agencies, and patient care staff and management. Essential functions include welcoming patients, collecting identification and payor documentation, conducting patient registration, and performing point of service collection. The role also involves measuring and collecting patient data such as temperature, pulse, oxygen saturation, respirations, blood pressure, height, weight, and, for pediatric patients, length and head circumference, as well as conducting hearing and vision screenings. All data and results must be communicated to the patient and accurately documented in the medical record. The technologist collects and documents patient reason for visit, chief complaint, allergies, health history, and current medications for provider review. They complete standard operating procedures to optimize patient comfort and throughput, prepare patients for radiologic procedures, perform X-rays following established safety procedures, document radiology procedures, type and file reports, and ensure images are transferred to the radiology group. Additionally, the role includes preparing patients for examinations and procedures, assisting providers with patient care, and, under provider delegation, performing approved lab tests and diagnostic testing, preparing and administering designated medications (oral, subcutaneous, intradermal, intramuscular), instilling eye drops, and applying topical medications. Organizing, scheduling, completing, and communicating primary care, specialist, and ancillary referrals are also key responsibilities. The position requires maintaining patient care supplies and medications, and performing quality checks and assurances throughout the Urgent Care facility, along with other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High school Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited two-year program in Radiologic Technology or equivalent required.
  • VA State Radiologic Technologist Licensure required.
  • American Heart Association (BLS for Health Care Providers) required.
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office and email required.
  • Health Care facility clinical experience required.
  • Previous experience in phlebotomy, as a medical office assistant, or C.N.A or equivalent experience with an electronic health record.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, urgent care medical specialty, and/or EPIC.

Responsibilities

  • Welcomes patients and guests to the Urgent Care facility, inquires the purpose and nature of the visit.

  • Types and files reports as requested.
  • Ensures images are transferred to radiology group.

  • At the direction and delegation of the provider, performs approved lab tests and diagnostic testing, prepares and administers designed medications (oral, subcutaneous, intradermal, intramuscular), instills eye drops, and applies topical medications.
