About The Position
The Minneapolis VA Medical Center is a leading facility, serving as one of the VA's four polytrauma medical centers. It provides specialized care for active-duty service members and Veterans with complex conditions such as brain injuries, blindness, amputations, and spinal cord injuries and disorders. The center boasts a 65,000 square foot facility dedicated to spinal cord care. In 2018, the facility saw significant volunteer support and a high volume of outpatient visits, underscoring its commitment to Veteran care. The main campus offers a comprehensive range of primary and specialty health services, including surgery, psychiatry, neurology, oncology, and dentistry.
Requirements
- Certified with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (R).
- Technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the requirements of a General DRT and DRT.
- An academic degree from an accredited Radiology Educational program.
- A current Basic Life Support certificate.
- A minimum of six (6) months experience in Diagnostic Radiology Technologies.
Responsibilities
- Perform a wide variety of diagnostic radiography exams under the direction of a physician.
- Operate all radiographic equipment including general diagnostic, portable, fluoroscopic, and Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) related equipment.
- Support Radiologists and/or other medical officers to produce high-quality images for diagnosis and treatment.
- Maintain records of patients and exams performed.
- Receive and identify patients, explain procedures, and assist in patient movement.
- Assist with the instruction of students in the clinical setting.
- Complete a variety of complex physiological and radiological procedures ordered by or in collaboration with a Radiologist Fellow without direct supervision.
- Utilize knowledge of radiation techniques and protection standards for the proper use, quality control, and preventative maintenance of imaging systems.
- Recognize changes in patient's condition, including emergencies, and individualize procedures to the needs of the situation.
- Perform proper calibrations on X-Ray equipment.
- Operate fluoroscopic equipment, General X-Ray equipment, and C-Arms equipment.
- May be required to perform exams in the OR, requiring comprehensive knowledge of sterile technique.
