The physicist will oversee the safety, calibration, testing, and performance of imaging systems including mammography, CT, MRI, and fluoroscopy units. The role also includes quality assurance responsibilities, staff education, and supporting technology procurements. The physicist will serve as the technical expert in radiation safety, equipment calibration, and diagnostic accuracy. They will perform diagnostic equipment surveys, data analysis, reporting, and equipment quality control. Collaboration with radiologists, technologists, and leadership is essential to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Specific duties include conducting acceptance testing and routine performance surveys for various imaging systems, ensuring compliance with FDA, MQSA, and Joint Commission standards, and developing/maintaining quality control programs for digital radiography (DR) and PACS systems. The role also involves performing mammography physics services, educating staff and residents, preparing technical specifications, supporting documentation for regulatory audits, traveling to remote sites, monitoring calibration activities, and participating in department meetings and quality improvement projects. Assisting with CPT coding and billing data for physics services is also part of the role.
