As a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, you will perform diagnostic imaging procedures that support patient care, medical education, and clinical research across a diverse patient population. You’ll work in close partnership with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and fellow technologists to deliver accurate, timely imaging that drives high‑quality care. The pace of the work is steady and purposeful, balancing technical precision with patient interaction. An average day may include imaging for routine diagnostics, complex medical conditions, and urgent clinical needs, all while supporting the broader mission of an academic medical center.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited JRC program in Radiography required.
  • Registered Radiologic Technologist through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT R.T.) must be accomplished prior to planned start date.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
  • Valid Virginia Driver’s License (VADL) may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree in Radiography preferred.
  • Students currently enrolled in accredited programs may proactively apply for open tech positions, but must have achieved certification prior to start planned start date.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic radiographic examinations using established protocols to ensure image quality, patient safety, and diagnostic accuracy
  • Prepare, position, and educate patients to support comfort, cooperation, and optimal imaging outcomes
  • Operate and maintain imaging equipment, ensuring adherence to radiation safety standards and departmental quality guidelines
  • Apply clinical judgment to adapt positioning and technique based on patient condition and clinical indication
  • Communicate effectively with radiologists and care teams to support timely interpretation and coordinated care
  • Contribute to a collaborative department culture that values professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement
