Performs functions as a healthcare provider who, working under the delegated authority of the Perinatologist, serves as a medical imaging professional providing clinically relevant information to assist the physician with the diagnosis and treatment of obstetrical patients. Perform ultrasound examinations for both the low and high-risk obstetrical patient. Ultrasound examinations range from routine diagnostic fetal surveys to high-risk detailed obstetrical scans and include, but are not limited to, first trimester and nuchal translucency screening, fetal anatomic surveys, fetal echocardiograms, Doppler studies, biophysical profiles, and endovaginal scans. Experience includes the ability to perform guidance for amniocentesis, amniocentesis reduction, surgery, and other invasive procedures performed in the Maternal-Fetal-Medicine (MFM) department. Sonographer must be able to work independently and have thorough knowledge of high-risk situations. Serve as preceptors for new staff and rotating sonography students. The unit follows the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine (AIUM) guidelines. Age appropriate care is provided to patients and families. Supports and implements patient safety and other safety practices as appropriate. Supports and demonstrates Family Centered Care principles when interacting with patients and their families and with co-workers. May require travel to outreach sites.
