About The Position

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Mechanic I in the mechanical maintenance craft. This role applies a broad level of process and mechanical/maintenance knowledge to maximize and, where possible, improve the efficiency of the overall production process. The position involves working autonomously under required supervision with the primary objective of safe production. The Miami smelter and rod plant is located 90 miles east of Phoenix, Arizona, in a historic mining district offering natural beauty and a rich mining heritage.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years’ experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts (including welder, boilermaker, machinist or facility maintenance/construction) or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance.
  • Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required mechanical aptitude.
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and technical skills while achieving 35% score on a written assessment where required (based on technical skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety).
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficient basic welding skills.
  • Candidates may be required to pass a medical exam.
  • Candidates must pass all required training and/or testing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and non-routine maintenance activities
  • Complete Work Orders and other maintenance documentation
  • Repair, install, fabricate, rebuild, and perform preventative maintenance of process equipment such as pumps, conveyors, dryers, gearboxes, filters, etc.
  • Perform equipment lubrication
  • Operate small and large cranes and knowledgeable of safe rigging practices
  • Follow and understand MSHA and/or OSHA rules and regulations, Environmental rules and regulations, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and work area instructions
  • Participate in safety and environmental activities
  • Use plant and equipment correctly at all times
  • Additional responsibilities and duties may be assigned according to business need.
