About The Position

This position oversees the day-to-day operations of the Breast Navigation department in the mammography environment. It develops and maintains a close working relationship with referring and oncology practices. The role works closely with radiologists to ensure resolution of all addendums, chart notes, and post biopsy letters as they relate to all biopsy patients. The position is responsible for calling breast biopsy patients to inform them of their pathology results and assist them with surgical referrals.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of Diagnostic Mammography experience
  • ARRT certification, Mammography
  • Junior College/Associate degree in radiologic technology
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to read and interpret medical reports
  • Familiarity with mammography setting
  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of diagnostic mammography, diagnostic ultrasound, mammographic disease, and pathology
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent customer service, both internal and external
  • Walking, sitting and standing for long periods of time, heavy lifting as needed
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Reviews diagnostic biopsy reports and makes sure all are reconciled with pathology results.
  • Evaluates pathology terminology in reports for coding purposes.
  • Works with radiologists and transcription to ensure all post biopsy letters are completed.
  • Contacts patients to follow up on biopsy results.
  • Works with referring physician practices to determine where positive biopsy patients are to be seen for surgery.
  • Works with the Mecklenburg Health Department and referring physician practices to ensure patients without insurance are seen for the appropriate care and placed on Medicaid prior to biopsy.
  • Works with outside providers to ensure that all outside consults and second opinions are completed.
  • Reviews images of outside priors to ensure proper images are in order and match diagnosis prior to being reviewed by radiologist.
  • Maintains database of surgical offices that physicians want their patients to be seen at to expedite care.
  • Directs incoming emergency department ultrasound patients to appropriate diagnostic facility and follows up on care.
