About The Position

This role is for a Diagnostic Automotive Technician responsible for accurately diagnosing problems on customer vehicles. The technician will be an expert in their craft, performing diagnostics with excellence, integrity, precision, and extreme care. A key part of the role involves partnering with office staff to achieve company sales goals by inspecting vehicles, quoting necessary repairs and services, and sometimes directly explaining vehicle conditions and needed services to customers. The technician will also provide guidance to production technicians to ensure smooth workflow. Secondary duties include performing vehicle inspections and quality control if an inspector is not present, assisting in maintaining a clean and safe shop area, and performing flat-rate repairs at half the hourly rate once diagnostic work is complete. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid US Driver's License.
  • Must be insurable on shop insurance policy.
  • Must possess the ability to drive a vehicle with passengers.
  • At least 7 years of practical experience working as a technician in an automobile repair facility.
  • Advanced knowledge of passenger automobile & light truck workings and systems.
  • Advanced knowledge and skill in passenger automobiles diagnostics including using a diagnostic tree, Identifix, Labscopes, module programming equipment, performing testing procedures to discover the cause (and repairs needed) to correct a customer's complaint.
  • Advanced knowledge, ability and skill in performing mechanical repairs and services on passenger automobiles including removing and reinstalling of parts, and doing service procedures.
  • Advanced experience on all makes and models, including but not limited to American, Asian, European, Diesel and Hybrid vehicles through F-550/5500 trucks.
  • Knowledge and skill of how to perform a thorough inspection on passenger automobiles and light trucks for the purpose of finding service and repairs needed based on the miles and condition of the vehicle.
  • Ability to clearly communicate in English with others verbally and in various written forms (hand-written and typed).
  • Ability and knowledge of how to use a computer and diagnostic tools to diagnose vehicles, look up repair instructions, and access Customer Management Software (including viewing a monitor, and using touch screens, mice and keyboards).
  • Ability to lift more than 50 lbs without assistance.
  • Ability to stand for periods of up to 60 min at a time.
  • Skilled and able to perform basic counting and math.
  • Ability to perform major and fine motor skill movements using the body to perform necessary actions (reaching overhead, pushing, pulling, bending down, stooping, and other major body movements).

Responsibilities

  • Accurately diagnosing problems on Customer's Vehicles with excellence, integrity, precision, and extreme care.
  • Inspect each vehicle and quote any needed repairs and services to each customer.
  • Work directly with customers to explain the condition of the vehicle and answer questions about needed services or repairs.
  • Provide guidance to production technicians on how to proceed with repairs.
  • Review production technicians' inspections for accuracy and thoroughness if a vehicle inspector is not present.
  • Perform Quality Control for production technicians.
  • Assist in keeping the shop area clean, safe, free of debris and other hazards.
  • Perform flat rate repairs on vehicles at ½ of your hourly rate when all diagnostic work is complete.
