About The Position

The Diabetes Care & Education Specialist (DCES) is responsible for inpatient and outpatient education for diabetic patients within the Standard of Care set by Parkview Health System and Indiana Nurse Practice Act. Delivers comprehensive and seamless services that bridge the gap and integrate clinical and self-management aspects of diabetes and cardiometabolic care. Is an integral part of the interprofessional team and provides collaborative, comprehensive and person-centered care, and education conducive to behavior change and improved quality of life across the lifespan. Supports and advocates for people affected by diabetes to optimize quality care. Promotes self-management to achieve individualized behavioral and treatment goals that reduce risks and optimize health outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within three years of employment (or grandfathered in if Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) hired/rehired or transferred from a non-nursing position prior to 12/1/17)
  • Registered Nurse License by the State of Board of Nursing
  • Current CPR certification
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to establish priorities
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • 5 year's experience preferred working as an RN in clinical setting
  • Certification as Certified Care and Education Specialist or Board Certified in Advanced Diabetes Management within 2 years of hire or when eligible to take exam
