Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate respect for all people working and shopping at the co-op.
  • Model excellent customer service toward both customers and staff.
  • Work with a sense of urgency and purpose.
  • Constructively solve problems that arise at the co-op.
  • Issue credits to customers for returned items.
  • Help customers with placing and picking up special orders.
  • Answer and route phone calls.
  • Assist new members with joining, distribute information and membership materials.
  • Provide excellent cashiering skills to customers.
  • Extensive knowledge of cashier procedures.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and take pride in our co-op.
  • Be organized and aware of cleanliness of your area while working.
  • Check out customer purchases quickly and accurately, using correct prices and department codes.
  • Call for back-up as needed so that customers have to wait as little as possible to be checked out.
  • Become familiar with co-op policies in order to answer customer questions.
  • Refer unresolved questions or problems to the Manager on Duty or Store Manager.
  • Handle all customer needs and complaints in a courteous, respectful, and efficient manner.
  • Understand member discount program and inform shoppers about Membership options.
  • Handle EBT and coupons accurately.
  • Maintain checking area in clean, orderly condition.
  • Keep busy during slow periods by performing tasks on stocking and cleaning checklist or as directed by MOD or store manager.
  • Replenish and rotate displays.
  • Work as part of team and establish priorities to curate aesthetically pleasing displays.
  • Dispose of damaged or spoiled goods appropriately (compost whenever possible).
  • Remove trash, clean cases, keep prep and storage areas clean and orderly.
  • Label products with appropriate PLU, price, and country of origin.
  • Stock displays fully without overcrowding; face items on shelves.
  • Rotate older stock to front, making space for newer stock.
  • Pull short-date or low-quality items and notify purchaser before disposing of them properly.
  • Label items accurately with price tags and signs.
  • Notify Replenishment Buyer of out-of-stocks.
  • Look for out of date product and record properly.
  • Clean display units and covers, and deli service areas
  • Pull any wilted or rotting produce and keep baskets and displays cleaned and wiped down.
  • Keep back stock separated by organic and conventional.
  • Make sure all boxes are rotated and visible.
  • Make sure displays and cases are full at all times.
  • Notify produce buyer of any shortages or out of stocks
  • Make sure all signs have proper price, country of origin and item listed.
  • Check deliveries to verify piece count, notify purchaser of discrepancies.
  • Check for damage and unacceptable quality, notify purchaser of problems.
  • Organize overstock into storage.
  • Keep shelves, coolers and backstock area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Keep department equipment in assigned areas and in working order.
  • Advise DeWitt Store Manager of equipment problems.
  • Participate in periodic inventory.
  • Attend Human Resources trainings, all-staff meetings, department meetings, and OBM Huddles to stay informed.
  • Read GreenStar publications to stay informed.
  • Respect and comply with storewide personnel policies.
  • Describe membership benefits, and how membership investment is made.
  • Adhere to scheduled shifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
