DevSecOps Research and Development Engineer
About The Position
We are seeking DevSecOps Research and Development Engineers to join our team in the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. These positions would work out of State College, PA or Reston, VA. ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply. ARL’s purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Intel Community (IC), and other federal government customers. Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. Employees must be eligible to obtain a government security clearance, participate in the ARL drug testing program, and comply with electronic and physical monitoring requirements applicable to federal contractors. ARL operates in a secure information environment involving Unclassified, Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), and Classified information. Personal electronic devices brought onsite must be registered and may be restricted from certain areas. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply.
Requirements
- Strong experience with Linux-based infrastructures, Linux/Unix administration
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Bash, and Ansible
- Experience with version control software such as Git
- Experience with open-source technologies and cloud services such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with logging, search, and/or aggregation tools such as Splunk, Elastic, or Prometheus
- Stellar troubleshooting skills with the ability to spot issues before they become problems
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain protocol and processes with team and management
- Well-organized, independent and ready to work with minimal supervision
- Bachelor's Degree - Engineering or Science
- 2+ years of relevant experience (if filled as Intermediate Professional)
- U.S. citizen
Nice To Haves
- Working with Atlassian products (JIRA, Bitbucket, Confluence)
- Working knowledge in Java, C/C++, and Matlab
- Familiarity with VMWare virtualization tools
- Familiarity with GitLab
- Experience with databases such as SQL, PostreQL, and MySQL
- Experience with open-source technologies and cloud services
Responsibilities
- Design and implement secure automation solutions for development, testing, and production environments
- Manage continuous integration and delivery pipeline to maximize efficiency
- Improving systems through updates and optimizations using various technologies
- Present program overviews, proposals, and technical briefings at internal and external events
- Coordinate with sponsors and team members to identify risks, issues, requirements, and design solutions for project-level activity on a day to day basis
