About The Position

Wyvern is seeking a DevOps Specialist to join their Software team. This role involves building and maintaining the infrastructure responsible for processing and analyzing satellite imagery, and delivering it to customers in a timely manner. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual eager to start their career in the space industry, with opportunities for growth as Wyvern expands its satellite constellation and data offerings. The company is a rapidly growing space company in Western Canada, focused on providing actionable intelligence from space by reimagining satellite Earth observation. Wyvern has successfully completed Y Combinator's Winter 2022 batch and secured significant funding.

Requirements

  • Must be a citizen or resident of, or currently legally authorized to work in, Canada.
  • Demonstrated ability to cooperate with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to explain the pros and cons of a technical solution to diverse audiences (developers to CEO).
  • Ability to independently solve problems and analytical thinking.
  • Experience in discovering a problem, tracking the bug, solving it, documenting the fix, and finding a way to prevent it in the future.
  • Automate what you can, document what you can't, and ensure tools are usable by others.
  • Continuous learner with strong personal initiative, always looking for ways to improve.
  • Experience using code (Terraform, Pulumi, Ansible, etc) to create and manage cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc).
  • Proficiency in setting up a web server in Linux, obtaining an SSL certificate from LetsEncrypt, troubleshooting network connectivity, and monitoring performance via the terminal.
  • Experience deploying software with Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
  • Ability to contribute to software projects by improving tooling, adding test suites, fixing bugs, or developing new features.
  • Experience setting up monitoring for critical services to proactively identify issues.
  • Experience baking security in from the start, applying principles like least privilege and defense in depth.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Python, Terraform, AWS, Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with Django, React, or Argo Workflows.
  • Ability to develop and deploy complex CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions & AWS/Azure (experience with Argo is a plus).
  • Experience with security considerations in cloud environments.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain software and infrastructure that supports image processing of incoming satellite data.
  • Build and maintain software and infrastructure that supports customer interfaces.
  • Build and maintain software and infrastructure that supports internal demos and research projects.
  • Work with the existing DevOps Developer to plan and drive improvements to our standards of security, reliability, performance, and quality.
  • Expand and improve monitoring for crucial internal systems.
