About The Position

Supporting and monitoring a 24/7 high-quality video streaming service in a fast-paced, startup-like environment. This role involves participation in an on-call rotation, promptly responding to alerts and issues, and collaborating with vendors and internal teams to resolve production problems. The engineer will also manage user access, troubleshoot infrastructure issues, and refine monitoring and alerting systems.

Requirements

Knowledge or familiarity with Linux shell, system internals, network, Java applications, and MySQL databases.
Love for debugging: troubleshooting and debugging monitoring alerts and internet connectivity issues.
Ability to read and understand server/systems logs and produce meaningful issue analyses.
Good analytics, troubleshooting skills, and intuition about probable root causes.
Experience with container and in-prem/public cloud technologies.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with Splunk, Python, Apache, rsync, and monitoring/alerting tools like Nagios, PagerDuty, OpsGenie.

Responsibilities

Supporting and monitoring a 24/7 high-quality video streaming service.
Participating in on-call rotation and carrying an on-call phone.
Promptly responding to alerts and issues raised by customers or internal business units.
Notifying relevant parties and acknowledging alerts.
Working with vendors, third-party service providers, and internal teams to solve production issues.
Collecting approvals and running software rollouts post-approvals.
Managing user access and supporting internal business units.
Troubleshooting and fixing infrastructure issues from hardware to application layers with minimal supervision.
Tailoring monitoring and alerting systems to avoid false positives and update alert settings.
Reviewing alerts, emails, and updating relevant teams in meetings regarding issues and outages.
