The Role We are seeking a DevOps Engineer to join our Technical Operations team. This role is responsible for the health, automation, and security of a diverse ecosystem including Xen VMs, Fortinet networking, and Kubernetes-based deployments. The ideal candidate balances the operational discipline required to track and resolve issues through our Kanban boards with the proactive drive to seek out and bring forward new opportunities to enhance our technical capabilities and processes. We are looking for a "GitOps" advocate who enjoys using version-controlled automation to maintain system integrity and has a strong interest in evolving our security operations through automated compliance and Google SecOps.

Requirements

  • Security Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret security clearance.
  • Technical Operations: Proven experience managing Xen VMs, Kubernetes deployments, and Fortinet networking devices.
  • Networking Foundations: Solid understanding of core networking concepts (TCP/IP, VLANs, Firewalls).
  • Security Mindset: Knowledge of and a strong interest in security operations and SIEM tools.
  • Scripting: Proficient in Python or Bash for system automation and administration.
  • Certification: Must possess a current CompTIA Security+ certification or be able to obtain it within the first 60 days of hire.
  • Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field. Equivalent professional experience and certifications will also be highly considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Cloud Proficiency: Professional experience with AWS or GCP deployments.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Experience with Terraform or CloudFormation to support a GitOps workflow.
  • Application Context: A basic understanding of Django or RESTful API architecture is helpful for troubleshooting application deployments.
  • Version Control: High proficiency with Git-based platforms (GitHub or GitLab).

Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure Management: Maintain and optimize our internal technical stack (Xen Virtual Machines, Kubernetes) and support our product-facing AWS environment.
  • GitOps & Automation: Advance and bolster our GitOps style of administration, ensuring infrastructure changes across all platforms are automated, documented, and version-controlled.
  • Networking & Connectivity: Configure and support core networking concepts and hardware, specifically focusing on Fortinet devices.
  • Pipeline Security: Ensure robust security processes are integrated into our CI/CD pipelines, including automated container image scanning and continuous compliance checking.
  • Security Operations Support: Demonstrate a knowledge of and strong interest in security operations (SecOps) by helping to evolve our Google SecOps deployment and SIEM tooling.
  • Workflow Discipline: Successfully manage tasks through team Kanban boards while maintaining the autonomy to identify and propose system improvements.
  • Scripting: Write and maintain robust scripts in Python or Bash to automate manual tasks and improve system reliability.
