About The Position

Develop dissemination tools for Census Bureau external customers, primarily web-based, allowing users to view data in tables, graphs, maps, and other formats. Work alongside Census Bureau developers to apply best practices in graphical user interface design, generalizing application components for different data sets, modern web programming frameworks, service-oriented architectures, Model-View-Controller (MVC) approaches, and efficient web data retrieval. The DevOps Engineer works with server administrators and development teams to establish containerized environments and integrate projects into DevOps workflows. The role designs and maintains GitLab CI/CD pipelines, configures Linux servers and containers, supports deployments to on-premises and AWS environments, and troubleshoots pipeline and cloud configuration issues. It also involves documenting integration practices and explaining technical topics through recorded sessions or training. Travel and driving are not required. The role requires U.S. citizenship and favorable adjudication of a Tier 1 NCIC III background investigation, as well as maintaining any necessary security access or background checks.

  • Experience managing containerized .NET applications running in AWS Fargate and ECS.
  • Experience connecting containerized applications to Amazon RDS Serverless.
  • Extensive experience programmatically managing and deploying AWS services using infrastructure as code, such as AWS CloudFormation, AWS Cloud Development Kit, or Terraform.
  • Familiarity with Amazon CloudWatch for debugging failed pipeline tasks, monitoring application health, and troubleshooting application issues.
  • Extensive experience with Linux, including RHEL 8 or later, and building and running CI/CD pipelines on Linux.
  • Experience with basic Linux administration, including configuring services, shell scripting, and cron.
  • Experience with some or all of JavaScript/TypeScript, NodeJS, C#/.NET, and Python.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
