About The Position

As a DevOps Engineer Principal, the work you’ll do at GDIT will be impactful to the mission of a secure customer. You will play a crucial role in maintaining critical production applications. You will serve as the primary DevOps engineer for a portfolio of customer-directed applications for a secure customer base. You will collaborate with a highly-skilled, high-performing development team, as well as a wider customer base. You will drive the development and infrastructure of key team resources. You will utilize AWS services, the end-to-end cloud infrastructure to support day-to-day maintenance and development cycles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science
  • 8+ years of related experience
  • TS/SCI w/Polygraph security clearance
  • US citizenship required
  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer with a strong understanding of software/application development processes and methodologies.
  • Solid work ethic and the ability to work in a mission critical environment.
  • Required Skills – GIT, CloudFormation, Cloudwatch (Logs, Insights, Dashboards), EC2, ECS/ECR, Autoscaling, Elasticache, IAM, ELB, RDS, VPC, Secrets Manager, Lambda, Parameter Store, API Gateway, CodeBuild/CodeDeploy, Terraform, Jenkins, Serverless Framework, Kubernetes, Containerization, Docker, Grafana, Loki.
  • Direct experience and demonstrated proficiency with multiple programming and scripting languages - Python, Java preferred.
  • Understanding of access management and security groups.
  • Experience with databases (Aurora, Maria db, MySQL).
  • Knowledge of network technologies, common infrastructure components, load balancers, firewalls, virtual and physical infrastructure design.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; shows tact with effective listening and follow through.
  • Experience working with container images and platforms (Docker/Kubernetes).
  • Understanding DevOps/Continuous Integration, serverless framework.
  • Understanding of microservice design to ensure best practices for security and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary DevOps engineer for a portfolio of customer-directed applications for a secure customer base.
  • Collaborate with a highly-skilled, high-performing development team, as well as a wider customer base.
  • Drive the development and infrastructure of key team resources.
  • Utilize AWS services, the end-to-end cloud infrastructure to support day-to-day maintenance and development cycles.
  • Competent to work at a high technical level on all phases of systems engineering activities.
  • Able to maintain status of operations at all times - perform after actions reporting on all outages and work with engineering teams to determine solution and root cause analysis.
  • Present findings to management for prioritization and tasking.
  • Architect, build and maintain cloud infrastructure to support team and customer initiatives.
  • Establish job orchestration strategies and approaches, maintain and improve existing infrastructure (build out autoscaling, support new services, optimize for cost efficiencies/authentication/search, etc).
  • Administer production, staging, test and development environments.
  • Establish and Improve system monitoring while maintaining established security protocols within development, test, and production systems.
  • Provides technical guidance and leadership to engineers with less experience.
  • Able to understand information systems and ensure accuracy of work.
  • Manage and aggregate server logs and monitor for security and system related incidents, monitor and analyze system performance, such as server load and resource usage.
  • Maintain operational environment and use of monitoring tools and dashboard interfaces (ie. Cloudwatch, Splunk).
  • Create and determine required metrics for dashboards and service health.
  • Drive security initiatives, like access control and vulnerability testing.
  • Integrate with enterprise authentication services.
  • Maintain up to date documentation of designs/configurations, ensuring team members have continuity of recurring tasks.
  • On-call support may be required.
