About The Position

The Device Management Specialist works collaboratively within the Technology Services team to ensure the seamless operation, deployment, and optimization of all district-owned technology. This role is essential for providing technical expertise, oversight, and project coordination to manage the district’s 1:1 iPad initiative and staff hardware fleet, including MacBooks, iMacs, and iPads. The Specialist serves as the primary administrator for the district’s Mobile Device Management (MDM) platform and Apple School Manager, ensuring all hardware is securely configured, properly provisioned, and aligned with educational goals. With a strong focus on asset lifecycle management, large-scale device deployment, and collection for students and staff, the Device Management Specialist contributes to the success of district-wide programs, while working closely with vendors and third-party partners. The Device Management Specialist works within a team environment to support the various technological needs of the district.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Advanced technical certification required or must be actively pursuing required certifications.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience supporting the Apple ecosystem and managing Apple devices through a Mobile Device Management (MDM) system.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required industry certifications, including: Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP), Apple Certified IT Professional (ACITP), CompTIA A+ Certification (Core 1 and Core 2)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in technology, information systems, education technology, or a related field preferred, but not required.
  • Experience working in a K–12 school district or educational technology environment preferred.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to obtain and maintain required certifications and continue professional learning to remain current with Apple technologies, device management systems, cybersecurity practices, and emerging educational technology trends.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary account administrator for the district’s Mobile Device Management (MDM) platform and Apple School Manager.
  • Manage device enrollments, profiles, configuration policies, and app deployment to ensure smooth and secure operations.
  • Oversee the lifecycle of all student iPads, including initial staging, operating system updates, policy enforcement, and final retirement or recycling of assets.
  • Specialize in configuring, provisioning, and supporting hardware used by staff members based on their specific roles, including MacBooks, iMacs, and iPads. Ensure proper functionality and specialized software delivery.
  • Serve as a technical expert during the planning of district-wide device distribution and collection cycles. Assists in organizing, managing, and executing the ongoing, daily onboarding and offboarding of devices for individual student enrollment changes (e.g., mid-year registrations or withdrawals) and staff transitions (e.g., new hires, retirements, or role changes) throughout the school year.
  • Assists with maintaining precise inventory records of all district technology assets within the tracking system. Conduct regular audits to ensure accountability for hardware assigned to students and staff.
  • Act as a point of contact for technical issues related to device warranties, AppleCare, and MDM service providers. Work directly with external vendors to coordinate hardware repairs, parts sourcing, and replacements.
  • Contribute to district-wide and building-specific technology initiatives. Collaborate with the Technology Services team to ensure that device deployment strategies align with the broader needs of the district.
  • Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 technical assistance and escalation support to district technicians for complex device management, operating system deployment, and MDM enrollment issues.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technological issues across macOS and iOS platforms. Provide timely solutions to minimize classroom disruption and ensure continuity of learning services.
  • Assemble, install, configure, and test hardware and software products. Ensure devices are properly configured with required profiles and restrictions before deployment to users.
  • Provide ongoing technical assistance to users, offering guidance and troubleshooting support on device functionality, Apple IDs, and core application usage.
  • Research and evaluate new device management methodologies, hardware accessories (such as protective cases and charging solutions), and MDM features to enhance the district's capabilities.
  • Assist in the implementation of best practices and strategies to optimize the use of available hardware assets, minimizing device loss and improving overall fleet efficiency.
  • Respond to and complete Helpdesk requests in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring that device management and deployment issues are resolved according to district priorities.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Take initiative in managing daily responsibilities, coordinating large-scale deployments, and resolving technical challenges.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, students, vendors, and the public. Ensure that all stakeholders are informed and supported in a timely manner regarding device deployment schedules and policies.
  • Maintain a high level of organization and strict attention to detail in all aspects of work, from tracking serial numbers to configuring sensitive MDM security profiles.
  • Actively participate in professional growth activities to continuously enhance technology skills, particularly regarding the Apple ecosystem and MDM trends. Demonstrate enthusiasm and passion for the technology profession.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of the school district.
  • Maintain regular attendance in accordance with district requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality (especially regarding student data and device assignments) and uphold unquestionable integrity in all professional interactions and tasks.
  • Uphold a professional demeanor in all interactions, maintaining a positive attitude and respectful communication with students, staff, and the public. Represent the district in a professional manner at all times.
  • Be available to work overtime as needed to support district operations (particularly during peak deployment and collection windows).
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
