About The Position

Community Connections Inc. is hiring a Developmental Specialist for its Day Center team in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. The role provides one-to-one direct support to people with disabilities, helping them achieve optimal independence through enriching services. The position calls for compassion, teamwork, and a commitment to serving the community. The employer notes that nights and weekends are for family and friends, not work.

The Developmental Specialist implements each individual's Day Habilitation Service Plan (DHSP), tracks progress, supports health and safety, and provides community-based habilitation and therapeutic experiences tailored to the individual's needs and wishes. The role may include physical assistance and transportation as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• At least 1 year of experience and/or training working with individuals with disabilities.
• Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
• Acceptable criminal background check.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently.
• Strong computer and word-processing skills.

Responsibilities

• Implement Day Habilitation Service Plan (DHSP) objectives.
• Document individuals’ progress toward DHSP objectives.
• Provide physical assistance to individuals as necessary.
• Ensure the individual's health, safety, and general well-being.
• Provide and maintain community-based habilitation and therapeutic experiences through social, recreational, and volunteer opportunities, based on the individual's needs and wishes.
• Transport the individual as assigned.
