The Developmental Specialist is primarily responsible for supporting people to achieve their personal dreams and goals. This role involves assessing individuals' hopes and desires, providing supports to facilitate their achievement, and assisting them in developing relationships within their community and with natural supports. The specialist ensures that the rights of each person receiving services are protected and promoted, and assists individuals in developing advocacy skills. They provide support for emotional, physical, and medical needs, and facilitate positive, person-centered relationships using approaches that promote self-determination. The role also includes input into assessment and planning processes, implementation and documentation of individual plans, and assisting with the daily operations of the home. Transportation and safety procedures are also key aspects of this position, as is assisting with staff orientation and training. Sleepovers at a residential setting may be required, along with active participation in meetings and training to maintain required certifications. Compliance with agency policies, state, and federal regulations is essential.
