About The Position

Administers a program of services for the developmentally disabled; participates in activities for facilitating the coordination of services provided within the State to developmentally disabled persons; and performs other related duties as assigned. This class involves responsibility, as division chief, for administering a statewide program which provides a variety of community-based and institutional services to the developmentally disabled. Community-based services are provided through an interdisciplinary approach and include diagnostic, training and therapy, evaluation and referral services; informational and educational services; consultation services; developmental services for infants and toddlers; respite and homemaker services; supportive day programs for adults; alternative residential services; placement, and follow along and case management services to ensure the adjustment of the developmentally disabled in the community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Three and one-half (3-1/2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in social work, public health, or other related fields which demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the social, emotional, economic and health needs of the developmentally disabled (including the Intellectually/Developmentally Disabled).
  • Knowledge of State and Federal laws pertaining to the developmentally disabled.
  • Knowledge of basic concepts and developments in developmental disabilities programs.
  • Knowledge of current social and economic conditions, community organizations and the services and/or programs they offer to the community.
  • Ability to conduct studies and analyses of on-going programs through active participation in the planning, coordination and development of programs and/or activities.
  • Two (2) years of professional work experience which involved supervising a professional staff.
  • Ability to plan, organize, schedule, and direct the work of others.
  • Ability to assign and review the work of others.
  • Ability to advise staff on difficult work problems.
  • Ability to train and develop subordinates.
  • Ability to evaluate the work performance of subordinates.
  • One (1) year of professional work experience which involved active participation in and major responsibility for the development, management, execution and coordination of a health program.
  • Responsibility for the formulation of policies and/or guidelines and the general framework of procedures governing the assigned program.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply public health laws and regulations.
