About The Position

This position performs professional planning functions. The work consists of varied professional planning duties. Coordinating activities with a variety of stakeholders contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to provide professional planning support for county operations. Success in this position contributes to the positive growth and development of the county.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of community planning.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Knowledge of county land use regulations.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, county ordinances, and department policies and procedures.
  • Skill in preparing clear and precise reports.
  • Skill in reading maps, charts, and surveys.
  • Skill in problem solving.
  • Skill in prioritizing and planning.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets and applies zoning ordinances, building codes, and land use regulations; responds to public inquiries regarding land use regulations and planning processes.
  • Reviews and analyzes site plans, surveys, and development applications for compliance with the zoning ordinance and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Uses geographic information systems (GIS) and other tools to visualize and assess land use applications.
  • Prepares presentation materials and delivers briefings to elected and appointed officials and to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Performs field inspections as needed.
  • Serves as department representative at various public and interdepartmental meetings, including Zoning Board hearings, Planning Commission meetings, and Development Review Team meetings; provides staff support to assigned board or commissions, including taking minutes and preparing agendas and agenda packets.
  • Participates in strategic, comprehensive, emergency, and local planning processes.
  • Researches, gathers data, and prepares reports, presentations, publications, tables, and charts.
  • Performs budgeting, bid review, and contract administration functions as assigned.
  • Performs related duties.
