About The Position

Auburn Advancement is seeking a Development Officer to join their philanthropy team. This role is crucial for building relationships and securing resources to support Auburn Advancement and Auburn University's philanthropic mission. The position is externally focused, requiring frequent travel and meetings both on and off campus during regular and non-traditional hours, and operates with a high degree of autonomy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of experience in fundraising, marketing, sales, and/or public relations (for Level I)
  • Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of experience in fundraising, marketing, sales, and/or public relations (for Level II)
  • Driver license, valid and in-state upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Identify and cultivate prospects through research, initial contact ratings, peer reviews, and other resources, aligning their philanthropic goals with Auburn’s mission.
  • Solicit major gifts through person-to-person visits, group presentations, and phone calls, presenting compelling cases for support.
  • Provide stewardship through personalized acknowledgements, keeping donors informed and involved via events and regular contact.
  • Champion philanthropy by impacting a culture of giving for Auburn University and encouraging alumni and stakeholders to support the university’s mission and vision.
  • Update and inform supervisors and other staff of goal status, new plans, and project proposals, ensuring a cooperative team effort to meet goals.
  • Prepare budgets with input from the Director, review and approve financial records, vouchers, and acquisitions.
  • Develop reports, records, and programs, and analyze information necessary to plan and complete projects and assignments.
  • Develop campaigns and/or presentation proposals related to funding priorities to keep top prospects informed, interested, and involved.
  • Produce or assist in producing marketing materials to support development efforts.
