About The Position

Build Meaningful Donor Relationships and Join Us as Our Next Foundation Development Officer! This role plays a key part in strengthening trust, engagement, and long-term philanthropic relationships. The Development Officer is responsible for supporting and advancing Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System’s philanthropic goals through relationship-based fundraising. This position identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards individual, corporate, and foundation donors at a variety of gift levels in support of annual, special, and priority fundraising initiatives. Manages a portfolio of donors and prospects and helps to build the Foundation’s pipeline. Works collaboratively with Foundation leadership, Philanthropy team, Stewardship manager and volunteers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree OR 10 years of experience in philanthropy development or related field in lieu of bachelor’s degree
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in philanthropy development or related field
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and writing skills

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a passionate and informed advocate for Spartanburg Regional Foundation (SRF) and Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS).
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, secure, and steward individual Foundation donors.
  • Maintain a portfolio of donors and prospects.
  • Collaborate with Foundation leadership, members of the Board of Trustees, physicians, and SRHS leaders to strengthen engagement and solicitation activity.
  • Conduct donor visits, phone calls, written communications, and personalized outreach to build meaningful relationships and communicate our story.
  • Conduct prospect research on past, current, and future donors in partnership with the SRF team.
  • Leverage engagement opportunities to identify new prospects.
  • Identify and advance donors capable of increased support.
  • Support giving efforts, service-line initiatives, special projects, and campaign activity as assigned.
  • Assist with planning and execution of events, appeals, grassroots efforts, and stewardship initiatives as assigned.
  • Participate in stewardship planning to strengthen donor trust, retention, and long-term engagement.
  • Maintain accurate and timely donor records and files.
  • Prepare briefing materials, contact reports, and donor proposals.
  • Undertake additional special projects as requested.
