Requirements

  • Degree in Physics, Eng. Physics. Advanced degrees in the same preferred. Degrees in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering will be considered if combined with experience in optics
  • Proven background in product or systems development.
  • 5+ years of experience in new product development
  • Experience working with multi-discipline teams in a collaborative environment
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Proven attention to detail – compliance matrices, technical reports.
  • Experience providing technical presentations to management.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with product line management in initial program or product definition – this may be as part of a brainstorming multi-function team.
  • Co-ordinate front end research programs – prototypes, evaluation, reports
  • As technical lead for new product development programs: Develop or support the development of requirements, specifications, and test plan.
  • Create and manage the detailed R&D schedule, provide input to resourcing plan
  • Interact with the Project Manager to support gate reviews, regular progress updates, and issue escalations
  • Participate in all technical reviews on owned programs. Possibly lead reviews in area of expertise.
  • R&D contact prime for operations as the product moves from core development to NPI to full factory deployment in a low cost manufacturing environment (i.e. offshore)
  • As product familiarity grows, possible design authority role on a product family – this implies: Roadmap input, architecture input
  • Life cycle R&D point of contact – factory ECO’s, Work instruction change verification, factory escalations, EOL issues
  • Customer technical issues.
