About The Position

The Development Engineer role is within the Medical Devices sector, specifically in R&D for Orthopaedics at Johnson & Johnson. This position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse range of products in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, with a direct impact on customers and patients. The role involves all elements of the product development lifecycle for medical devices, including design inputs and outputs management, materials selection and biocompatibility, risk management, and verification & validation activities. Responsibilities also include supporting product testing with protocol and test method development, collaborating across multiple functions and geographies, and supporting the development of new product codes with external suppliers. The role requires strong analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills, effective collaboration, and the ability to provide DFX (manufacturing, assembly, and cost) input. Development and qualification of complex tolerance analysis, process characterizations, DOE's, and optimizations using statistical techniques are also key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a similar relevant Engineering subject.
  • A minimum of 2 years work experience in a Product Development role is required.
  • Engineering design, development and analysis skills.
  • Proven analytical problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Effective collaboration at all levels within the business.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong project management and communication skills with a proven track record of leading a variety of development projects through to completion is desirable.
  • Expertise in the delivery of design history file generation and associated documentation such as technical reports, test reports and risk management.
  • Applied Process Excellence/ Design Excellence, LEAN and Value Engineering experience.
  • Formal Green Belt/Black Belt Certification is an advantage.
  • Analytical simulation skills with practical use of Matlab or Ansys software being advantageous.
  • Experience working in new product development projects and partnering with design teams.

  • Own the resolution of complex engineering and manufacturing problems utilizing advanced CAD techniques, rapid and conventional prototyping, and other available technologies
