Development Director

IMPACT NW GROUPPortland, OR
$120,000 - $120,000Onsite

About The Position

Impact NW is seeking a strategic and relationship-driven Development Director to help lead the organization through a rapidly changing nonprofit and funding landscape. This is not a traditional fundraising role. We are looking for a leader who can strengthen donor relationships, build cross-sector partnerships, engage community and public stakeholders, and help position the organization for long-term sustainability and growth. As a key member of the leadership team, the Director of Development will lead the organization’s fundraising and philanthropic engagement strategy while helping diversify revenue streams and expand Impact NW’s visibility and influence across the region. The ideal candidate brings a balance of strategic thinking and authentic relationship-building. They understand how to connect mission to investment, cultivate long-term donor trust, and navigate the intersection of philanthropy, public funding, advocacy, and community partnerships. We are looking for someone who is thoughtful, collaborative, adaptable, and action-oriented — a leader who can build strong relationships, think strategically, and help guide the organization through an evolving funding environment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive nonprofit development or fundraising leadership experience
  • Demonstrated success leading strategic fundraising initiatives and achieving revenue goals
  • Experience cultivating major donors and institutional funders
  • Experience developing multi-source fundraising strategies and diversifying revenue
  • Strong relationship-building and external partnership skills
  • Experience engaging with elected officials, public agencies, or community coalitions
  • Ability to analyze fundraising data and use insights to guide strategy
  • Experience supervising staff and partnering with executive leadership and boards
  • Familiarity with the social services, housing, behavioral health, or community-based nonprofit sector strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead a Strategic Fundraising Vision: Develop and implement a long-term fundraising strategy aligned with organizational priorities and growth goals.
  • Strengthen and diversify revenue across individual giving, institutional philanthropy, corporate partnerships, public funding opportunities, and major gifts.
  • Build sustainable fundraising systems that support long-term organizational resilience rather than short-term transactional fundraising.
  • Partner with executive leadership to establish annual revenue goals, evaluate fundraising performance, and identify emerging opportunities and risks.
  • Build Meaningful Donor Relationships: Lead a relationship-centered approach to philanthropy grounded in trust, transparency, and community impact.
  • Cultivate and steward a portfolio of major donors, institutional funders, and community partners.
  • Strengthen donor engagement strategies that deepen connection and increase long-term investment in Impact NW’s mission.
  • Help tell compelling stories about the organization’s work and impact in ways that resonate with donors, foundations, and community stakeholders.
  • Strengthen Community & Government Partnerships: Build and maintain strong relationships with elected officials, government agencies, foundations, coalitions, and community partners.
  • Represent Impact NW in external meetings, community collaborations, and public-facing opportunities.
  • Monitor policy and funding trends that may impact the organization and identify opportunities for strategic alignment and advocacy.
  • Support efforts to elevate Impact NW’s voice and visibility within the broader human services and nonprofit ecosystem.
  • Partner Across the Organization: Work closely with program, finance, communications, and executive leadership teams to align fundraising efforts with organizational priorities.
  • Support and engage board members in fundraising and external relationship-building activities.
  • Supervise and mentor development staff while fostering a collaborative and mission-driven team culture.
  • Help strengthen a culture of philanthropy across the organization.
