About The Position

The American Red Cross is seeking a Development Communications Manager for its South Florida Region, located in Miami. This role is crucial for performing communications and marketing functions that support regional business objectives, promote the Red Cross mission, aid in revenue generation, and educate the public on accessing Red Cross services. The position requires close collaboration with various regional departments, including Development, Disaster Cycle Services, Service to the Armed Forces, Biomedical Services, Training Services, and Volunteer Services, to provide comprehensive communication and marketing support. Additionally, the role involves providing support, development, and leadership guidance to volunteers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Public Affairs, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Good understanding of the role and industry, with specialized knowledge.
  • Proficient in the role.
  • Ability to analyze possible solutions using standard procedures.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, with proven knowledge of AP Style.
  • Demonstrated effective critical thinking and strategic planning skills.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with Cision/TrendKite or other media monitoring software.
  • Demonstrated experience managing professional social media platforms for an organization.
  • Comfortable using website content management systems and other marketing tools.
  • Willingness to serve as a media spokesperson required.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills required.
  • Ability to work on a team.
  • Travel is required.
  • Combination of candidate’s education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to the minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).

Responsibilities

  • Execute media relations strategy in coordination with regional leadership, including maintaining media contacts, writing and distributing news releases, and pitching stories.
  • Serve as a Red Cross spokesperson, train and prepare other spokespersons, review support requests, and develop effective communication strategies.
  • Respond to local media inquiries by coordinating interviews and providing approved information.
  • Support regional, divisional, and national disaster public affairs activities, including training disaster public affairs volunteers.
  • Potentially deploy to support disaster response operations outside the home region or conduct public affairs volunteer training and development across the division.
  • Implement a social media engagement strategy for the region, aligned with enterprise-wide strategy, and produce local content for web and social platforms.
  • Support integrated campaign and program development in collaboration with Field Marketing and Regional Financial Development.
  • Encourage staff to utilize Brand Central.
  • Support the development of strategic and change management communications.
  • Assist the regional communications director in building, engaging, and supervising a regional communications and disaster public affairs volunteer team.
  • Act as an individual contributor, applying specialized knowledge acquired through experience, and potentially instructing or coaching other professionals.
