About The Position

Gelest Inc. is seeking a Development Chemist, Incubation to oversee special synthetic projects from planning to completion. This role ensures projects adhere to safety, quality, and regulatory standards, while also driving the development of new synthetic methods and processes. The chemist will provide technical guidance, perform analytical work, and collaborate with stakeholders to explore new research opportunities. Key responsibilities include analyzing reactions, resolving problems, and preparing technical reports. The role also requires ensuring laboratory compliance with safety protocols and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field required.
  • A focus in synthetic chemistry preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of chemical principles and reaction mechanisms.
  • Comfort and familiarity with handling air-sensitive and pyrophoric materials (i.e. using Schlenk lines and glove boxes).
  • Knowledge of modern analytical techniques (NMR, GC, MS, HPLC, UV, IR, TGA, DSC) and instrumentation for the isolation and identification of silane or metal organic compounds.
  • Experience with laboratory techniques, analytical instruments, and statistical analysis.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment.
  • Must be able to work in a chemical processing environment, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment PPE, (at minimum safety shoes and safety glasses. Respirators, gloves or other PPE) as necessary).
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of special synthetic projects.
  • Ensure projects meet all safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Drive the development of new synthetic methods and processes.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to team members.
  • Perform preliminary and in-process analytical work on reactions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify and explore new research opportunities.
  • Identify and evaluate potential new project opportunities.
  • Analyze facts and make observations during reactions and apply this information to resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, proposals, and presentations.
  • Ensure all laboratory activities comply with safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
