About The Position

We actively promote policies that advance racial equity. Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation has an opening for one (1) full-time Development Associate/Individual Giving Coordinator to support the organization’s growing fundraising efforts through a combination of grant writing, donor relations, and individual giving initiatives. This position is a non-exempt role within the Fund Development Department. The ideal candidate will be a skilled writer and detail-oriented project manager who is equally comfortable preparing compelling proposals and reports for private foundations, corporations, and government agencies, as well as cultivating and stewarding a portfolio of individual donors. This is a growth position reporting to the Director of Fund Development & Strategic Initiatives and supporting the Deputy Director of Fund Development. CHLDC has an annual budget of $25 million and serves over 20,000 residents annually across multiple schools, storefronts, and a community center.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • At least 2 years of experience with grants, contracts, or donor engagement in a nonprofit setting.
  • Excellent writing skills. This includes ability to write for different audiences and versatility across multiple platforms.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Must be able to exercise sound judgment and prioritize and manage multiple complex tasks while maintaining composure under demanding deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Flexible, collaborative, and able to work independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of online grant systems (Grants.gov, PASSPort, Grants Gateway, SAM) preferred.
  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge, Financial Edge, and Instrumentl.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of individual donors and prospects, soliciting gifts between $250–$2,500.
  • Work with the Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing to plan and execute donor communications and campaigns (letters, phone calls, visits, appeals, digital fundraising, etc.)
  • Maintain accurate donor records in CHLDC’s CRM (Raiser’s Edge), ensuring data integrity.
  • Assist the Director of Fund Development and Strategic Initiatives to prepare donor briefings and coordinate donor visits, meetings, and stewardship activities.
  • Support gift acknowledgments, ensuring 100% of donations are recognized within 72 hours.
  • Collaborate with leadership on cultivating Alumni, the Junior Board and other volunteer-to-donor pipelines.
  • Coordinate volunteer days with division leaders and program directors
  • Prepare interim and final reports to funders, working with program and fiscal staff.
  • Ensure compliance with administrative requirements for funded awards.
  • Maintain orderly files of critical grant documents and manage access to City, State, and Federal grantee systems.
  • Support prospecting and foundation/corporation research.
  • As needed, coordinate and write proposals to private and corporate foundations, as well as RFPs to government agencies. Lead proposal development processes, including drafting, reviewing, and submitting timely, high-quality applications.
  • Assist the Director of Fund Development and Strategic Initiatives in planning and execution of major fundraising events
  • Assist in coordinating logistics, vendor relationships, sponsorship outreach, and attendee management.
  • Track event revenue/expenses and manage donor follow-up.
  • Help organize smaller cultivation events to engage prospects and steward donors.
  • Assist the Director of Fund Development and Strategic Initiatives to support board members in achieving annual give/get goals and individual giving plans.
  • Generate monthly/quarterly donor reports for the board.
  • Other duties as assigned
