The Arts & Science Council (ASC) is a nonprofit organization committed to creating a vibrant cultural ecosystem in Charlotte-Mecklenburg through investment in arts, science, and history. As a catalyst for cultural growth, ASC empowers local creatives, supports innovative programming, and enhances community engagement. The Individual Giving Officer will lead ASC’s individual giving strategy and execution, with a primary focus on donor acquisition and re-engagement, relationship-based fundraising and disciplined prospect management. This role will manage a portfolio of donors and prospects and develop a fundraising plan to increase philanthropic support in support of ASC’s mission. Reporting to the Vice President of Advancement, this dynamic leader will build relationships, drive donor engagement and align development initiatives with ASC’s goals to create a vibrant cultural ecosystem in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. This position requires a dynamic leader who is passionate about arts, science, and culture and skilled in relationship building, strategy development and donor engagement.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in fundraising, development, or a related role, with a demonstrated ability to achieve ambitious revenue goals.
  • Demonstrated success re-engaging lapsed donors, building donor pipelines and developing meaningful donor relationships.
  • Strong portfolio management skills.
  • Executive presence and ability to speak in front of large groups.
  • Proficiency with donor management software (e.g., Salesforce, Blackbaud) and data-driven fundraising strategies.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey ASC’s mission and values effectively.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of fundraising and donor engagement.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT.
  • Knowledge of the arts, culture, and nonprofit sector, particularly in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area.
  • A strategic thinker with a proven track record in individual donor engagement.
  • A persuasive communicator who can articulate ASC’s mission and impact to diverse audiences, from individual donors to corporate executives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategies that cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors, with a focus on expanding ASC’s leadership annual ($1,000+) and major gift ($5,000+) programs.
  • Create and oversee donor recognition programs and create personalized engagement plans for individual donors.
  • Design and lead a structured reacquisition program to re-engage lapsed donors using tailored messaging, multi-channel outreach and prioritized, relationship-based follow-up.
  • Promote legacy/planned giving opportunities in donor conversations and stewardship and identify prospective legacy donors for follow-up and cultivation.
  • Manage an assigned portfolio of up to 100 donors and prospects by executing consistent cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities.
  • Build strong donor relationships through a human-centered approach that balances donor motivations with the needs of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg cultural community.
  • Employ a moves management process to encourage increased giving over time.
  • Use ASC’s CRM – Raiser’s Edge NXT – to maintain disciplined prospect management practices, including segmentation, moves tracking, action plans and outcomes.
  • Execute remaining workplace giving initiatives, ensuring strong participation and impactful results as ASC transitions away from its traditional workplace giving model.
  • Develop new engagement programs in partnership with current and past companies who participate in workplace giving campaigns to grow direct giving to ASC.
  • Analyze donor data to identify trends, set benchmarks, and implement targeted strategies to retain existing donors and attract new supporters.
  • Partner with Marketing & Communications to develop compelling donor communications, including annual year end campaigns, general appeals, impact reports and personalized outreach.
  • Represent ASC at community events, cultivating relationships with stakeholders and advocating for ASC’s mission.
  • Work in collaboration with the Program Officer, Community Engagement to plan and execute special events and initiatives that support ASC’s fundraising goals.
  • Partner with Marketing & Communications to plan and execute segmented giving campaigns by providing clear campaign priorities, timelines and call-to-actions.
  • Partner with Foundation for the Carolinas’ (FFTC) Donor Operations and Finance teams, who facilitate data entry and gift acknowledgement processes on behalf of ASC, to ensure proper stewardship and effective campaign reporting.
  • Equip and engage the ASC President, VP of Advancement and Board of Directors in donor engagement and solicitation activities for gifts of $10,000 or more, including providing call sheets/briefings, meeting preparation, follow-up plans and a structured “ask ramp” to increase effectiveness over time.
  • Work in partnership with the VP of Advancement to develop individual giving KPIs to track success.
  • Use Raiser’s Edge NXT to drive a disciplined moves-management process (actions, stages, next steps, outcomes) and ensure timely documentation of donor interactions to track progress to stated goals.
  • Provide regular reports on progress toward fundraising goals, identifying opportunities for improvement.
