About The Position

The Development Associate, Donor Engagement and Stewardship plays a vital role in creating exceptional experiences for United Way's leadership donors by coordinating stewardship, engagement, and cultivation activities that strengthen donor relationships and inspire continued investment. This position manages the annual engagement strategy for leadership giving societies, including Women United, Tocqueville Society, and Leadership Societies ensuring timely, meaningful, and personalized communication throughout the donor journey. Working closely with the Individual Giving team, this position serves as the operational lead for donor engagement activities, stewardship communications, volunteer leadership support, and cultivation events that deepen donor involvement and increase long-term retention.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two to four years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, event planning, nonprofit development, hospitality, or customer relationship management.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with donors, volunteers, and community leaders.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to exceptional customer service.
  • Experience with CRM/database management preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and donor database software.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for donor events.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate stewardship activities for leadership donors across Women United, Tocqueville Society, Leadership Societies, and Individual Giving.
  • Coordinate acknowledgement letters for all leadership donors.
  • Manage personalized acknowledgement processes including letters, handwritten thank-you cards, acknowledgement emails, donor gifts, holiday and birthday cards, and donor recognition for leadership donors.
  • Maintain stewardship calendars to ensure timely and consistent donor touchpoints throughout the year.
  • Manage weekly donor acknowledgement and donor management officer (DMO) communications during campaign season.
  • Coordinate the annual stewardship and engagement calendar.
  • Support ongoing donor recognition initiatives.
  • Produce and distribute quarterly newsletters and member communications for Women United and Tocqueville Society.
  • Coordinate and manage volunteer leadership meetings and activities (Cabinet meetings, Advisory Council meetings).
  • Coordinate Child Care Scholarship review logistics and volunteer communications.
  • Coordinate execution of the annual Women United and Tocqueville Society engagement calendar.
  • Support planning and execution of Women United signature engagement events by providing logistic, communications, volunteer, and follow-up activity support for the following events: Margarita Mingle, Chair's Reception, Power of the Purse.
  • Support planning and execution of Tocqueville cultivation events by providing logistic, communications, volunteer, and follow-up activity support for the following events: Fall Reception, Spring Dinner, Breakfast Series, Becker Vineyards event.
  • Ensure exceptional donor experiences before, during, and after events.
  • Coordinate annual Tocqueville renewal mailing and membership materials.
  • Prepare personalized Tocqueville renewal packets including pledge forms and stewardship materials.
  • Coordinate major gift and individual giving solicitation mailings and follow-up communications.
  • Assist with donor follow-up communications including email and phone outreach.
  • Maintain accurate donor records and engagement activity within the CRM.
  • Track stewardship activities, event participation, and volunteer engagement.
  • Prepare reports and donor lists to support fundraising strategies.
  • Coordinate mailing lists, invitation lists, and communication schedules.
  • Assist with additional development projects and donor engagement initiatives as assigned.
