About The Position

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is seeking a Development Assistant for Research to join its Research team. This role involves preparing written reports and data on potential funding prospects for The Met’s Trustees, Executive Staff, and Development Staff in advance of important events and meetings. The assistant will utilize Lexis-Nexis and other online resources to identify prospects for capital projects, exhibitions, and programs, and provide recommendations on engagement strategies. Additionally, the role includes assisting in the management and entry of data into the Development software system, contributing to the organization and prioritization of prospect portfolios for various funding projects.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated writing, editing, and analytical skills
  • Strong computer skills and experience with MS Office
  • Experience with Web-based research and online news retrieval systems, including Lexis-Nexis
  • Experience with Tessitura or other development software systems
  • Interest in current events and news related to business, finance, philanthropy, and the arts; knowledge of key figures in business and finance, New York philanthropy, and the international art market

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research using Lexis-Nexis and many other online information resources
  • Write concise and informative reports for Trustees, the Director and CEO, Executive Staff, and Development Staff to assist fundraising efforts
  • Present information that prepares Museum Trustees and Staff for fundraising-focused meetings and cultivation events, managing time-sensitive deadlines with ongoing proactive departmental projects
  • Identify potential funders for The Museum's various capital projects, exhibitions, and programs
  • Manage and prioritize prospect portfolios and partner with members of the Major Gifts team to provide relevant information that helps formulate strategies and facilitates new outreach and engagement
  • Enter, organize, and maintain related prospect data in Tessitura
  • Analyze and distribute news, financial, and business information relevant to fundraising efforts of the Museum
  • Other duties as assigned
