About The Position

Boston College is seeking a Development Assistant for its Annual Giving Programs. This role supports fundraisers, university colleagues, and external constituents in developing and maintaining programs to secure philanthropic support. The Annual Giving team focuses on managing the qualification, solicitation, and stewardship of individual gifts from alumni, parents, and friends, aiming to increase undergraduate participation and current-use dollars. The position requires strong interpersonal and organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent communication abilities, and discretion in handling confidential data. Requirements

  • High school diploma, bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2-3 years of increasingly responsible administrative experience in a professional setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, including effective phone communication skills.
  • Accurate typing skills.
  • Working knowledge of Windows PC, including Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management databases.
  • Exceptional proofreading.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • A commitment to accuracy.
  • Very adept at handling multiple tasks and working well within deadlines.
  • Good judgment.
  • Discretion in handling confidential materials.
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision.
  • Flexibility to work beyond the regular hours of the workday when necessary.
  • Solid knowledge of grammar and punctuation.
  • Highly motivated to work in a fast-paced environment that will require some night and evening work.
  • Must be a team player who is highly motivated and dedicated to the goals of advancing higher education.
  • An appreciation for Jesuit Catholic education and the goals and values of Boston College.

Responsibilities

  • Supports all aspects of fundraising volunteer management, including maintaining the internal database and volunteer management system.
  • Prepares materials for fundraiser prospect visits.
  • Makes travel arrangements.
  • Completes transmittal forms for pledges and gifts received.
  • Files visit reports in the Customer Relationship Management database.
  • Drafts gift acknowledgments.
  • Requests research and pulls additional donor or prospect information from various systems.
  • Supports the work associated with external constituents’ visits to campus, meetings, and special events, often interfacing with the Programs and Events team, to maximize event effectiveness within budgetary guidelines.
