About The Position

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) is seeking a visionary leader to serve as the Development and Wellness Administrator. In this strategic role, you will direct the Staff Training Academy and lead agency-wide professional development and learning management initiatives to build workforce capability, support leadership growth, and ensure alignment with NDCS values and compliance standards. Additionally, this position coordinates comprehensive team member wellness and resiliency programs—encompassing development, implementation, training, evaluation, and tracking. You will serve as the primary agency contact for the State Employee Assistance Program and advise the SERVES team to actively support staff through the day-to-day and incident-related stress associated with corrections work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and one year of related experience. Experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam and, at a randomly announced time, a drug test.
  • Once at the Staff Training Academy, candidates must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in organizational development, human resources, education, public administration, or a related field.
  • Experience designing, leading, and evaluating staff training, professional development, or workforce initiatives in a large organization.
  • Experience teaching, coaching, or mentoring in professional settings.
  • Administration of Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Experience in the delivery of engaging presentations and facilitate learning for diverse audiences, including frontline staff, supervisors, and executive leadership.
  • Experience collaborating with executive leadership, HR, and legal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage agency-wide professional development strategies, including direction and oversight of the Staff Training Academy.
  • Supervise training staff and daily operations to ensure programs and practices align with NDCS values, policies, and workforce development goals.
  • Collaborate with NDCS executive leadership to design, implement, and evaluate leadership development and employee retention initiatives.
  • Oversee and manage the agency-wide wellness program, including strategic direction, program development, implementation, and evaluation to support employee well-being and workforce engagement.
  • Provide oversight and direction for the agency’s peer support team, SERVES, ensuring effective coordination, program development, training, and alignment with agency wellness and employee support initiatives.
  • Provide coaching and consultation to supervisors on leadership development opportunities, succession planning, and workforce growth strategies.
  • Serves as the agency contact for the State Employee Assistance Program.
  • Translate complex information into clear, practical training content, and communications.
