About The Position

Hightouch is seeking a Developer Productivity Engineer to manage their monorepo and the "path to production" for over 50 engineers. This role involves ensuring fast and safe deployments, improving engineering team productivity, and working with a multi-cloud and multi-region infrastructure. The monorepo primarily uses Javascript/Typescript, with some Go and Python. Strong computer science and development fundamentals are required, and new hires will spend time writing and delivering features to understand the current developer workflow. The role emphasizes high ownership and autonomy, with opportunities to work directly with customers and influence team and company direction. Key problem areas include owning the build/test/deploy process, enhancing monorepo productivity (e.g., with tools like TurboRepo), driving testing excellence, supporting multi-region/multi-cloud infrastructure, and improving operational excellence to catch and respond to issues.

Requirements

  • Passion for solving hard technical problems that generate real value for customers.
  • Motivation by high ownership and comfort in a fast-paced, startup environment.
  • Experience driving significant improvement in the productivity of a 50+ person development team through high-leverage changes to build/test/deploy processes.
  • Strong development fundamentals.
  • Comfort driving framework-level improvements across multiple teams.
  • Experience as a member of a developer-productivity team/function for an outstanding development team.
  • Experience organically becoming "the build person" at a fast-growing startup and helping bring order to chaos.
  • Experience personally delivering code that has improved cross-team metrics related to developer productivity (e.g., DORA metrics, coverage, etc).
  • Ability to dive into feature code, including complicated backend code.

Nice To Haves

  • Some infra chops.

Responsibilities

  • Own the build/test/deploy of software and how each team fits into it.
  • Improve monorepo productivity by detangling build/test/deploy patterns and investigating tools like TurboRepo.
  • Drive excellence in testing by improving top-down and team-level views into test coverage and supporting a growing matrix of data sources, destinations, and enrichment patterns.
  • Support and extend multi-region and multi-cloud backend infrastructure to launch in new regions for data residency requirements.
  • Enhance operational excellence to increase the ability to catch issues before production and respond quickly if they arise.
  • Write and deliver features as part of onboarding to gain empathy for the current dev flow.
  • Dive into feature code, including complicated backend code, as needed.

Benefits

  • Meaningful equity compensation in the form of ISO options.
  • Early exercise of options.
  • 10-year post-termination exercise window for options.
