About The Position

The Detox Nurse plays a critical role in the healthcare and social assistance sector by providing specialized nursing care to patients undergoing detoxification from substances such as alcohol, opioids, and other drugs. This position involves closely monitoring patients' physical and psychological conditions to ensure safe and effective withdrawal management while minimizing complications. The nurse collaborates with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, counselors, and social workers to develop and implement individualized care plans. Additionally, the Detox Nurse educates patients and their families about the detox process, potential withdrawal symptoms, and strategies for maintaining long-term recovery. Ultimately, this role aims to support patients through a challenging phase of treatment, promoting safety, comfort, and a foundation for ongoing rehabilitation.

Requirements

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States.
  • Completion of an accredited nursing program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Experience or training in substance use disorder treatment or detoxification nursing.
  • Strong knowledge of withdrawal symptoms, medication administration, and patient monitoring.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Certification in Addiction Nursing (e.g., Certified Addictions Registered Nurse - CARN).
  • Experience working in inpatient or outpatient detoxification or addiction treatment settings.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and documentation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments upon admission to determine detoxification needs and risks.
  • Monitor vital signs and withdrawal symptoms regularly to detect any adverse reactions or complications.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with established protocols and physician orders.
  • Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families regarding the detox process and recovery options.
  • Document patient progress accurately and communicate changes in condition to the healthcare team promptly.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans and facilitate smooth transitions to subsequent treatment phases.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment that supports patient dignity and confidentiality.
