About The Position

Processes individuals into the Independence Police Detention facility. Responsible for intake of personal belongings; booking; fingerprinting and searching detainees/prisoners; completes medical questionnaires. Monitor the detention area to provide safety and security for arrestees. Coordinates the bonding and/or arraignment of detainees with Municipal/ State/ Federal Court; provides courts with proper documentation. Arranges meals and makes provisions for personal needs of prisoners. Maintains the detention facility; cleans cells; laundry; and supplies. Perform data entry of required records and reports. Inform the Detective Unit of felony arrests and arraignments and other duties as directed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Aptitude in record keeping, report preparation, computer applications and effective communication is desired.
  • Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire.
  • Complete certification in CPR, First Aid, AED and LVNR within three years.
  • Knowledge of applicable detention laws as well as ability to maintain order and security within the detention unit preferred.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires drug testing.
  • Requires a comprehensive background check.
  • Requires successful completion of a lift and drag test (Approximately 165 lbs. for 100 feet).

  • Aptitude in record keeping, report preparation, computer applications and effective communication is desired.
  • Knowledge of applicable detention laws as well as ability to maintain order and security within the detention unit preferred.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.
