Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • US Citizenship or Lawful US Permanent Resident required.
  • Must successfully complete required pre-service training.
  • A valid CDL driver’s license with a passenger endorsement in the state of Arizona and an acceptable driving record is required.
  • Successful completion of the ICE/ERO bus driver training program, or a comparable approved training program, and all local and state requirements for a commercial driver’s license also required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior corrections or detention experience is strongly desired.
  • If passenger endorsement is not obtained by the first day of work, the position will be reclassified until obtained.

Responsibilities

  • Search for contraband and provide security.
  • Operate designated vehicles to transport detainees.
  • Count, feed and supervise detainees in housing, work and other areas as assigned.
  • Provide custody and security of detainees including observation of detainees during transportation, this will include long periods of sitting.
  • Perform specific security functions including ‘pat’ and ‘strip’ searches, by squatting and bending to perform such functions. May also required to climb ladders or stairs in search of contraband.
  • Transfer and transport detainees by walking, driving, or riding in vehicles.
  • Restrain and secure assaultive detainees, as needed.
  • Required to work rotating shifts and all posts assignments.
  • Required to make periodic rounds of assigned area which may include long periods of walking and standing.
  • Read, review and properly apply information found in detainee records which is related to the detainees’ health and safety and to the security of the facility.
  • Provide appropriate information to other personnel.
  • Properly prepare and maintain records, forms and reports, as appropriate.
  • Perform specific duties if assigned to the following areas: commissary, property transportation, recreation, escort/utility, mailroom, laundry, visitation, mobile patrol, central control, security housing units and intake.
