About The Position

This position provides supervision and care for juveniles detained in a detention facility in a judicial district of the Superior Court. This position will direct the shift activities of Relief staff and will work under the direct supervision of Detention Officer II, III and/or the Director of Detention. Work is performed under the general supervision of Detention Officers II and III. While work is closely monitored initially, independence is gradually attained with continued experience and proven ability. Guidelines and direct are given orally by Detention Officers II and III while daily policies and procedures are available in the Detention Services Manual.

Requirements

  • At least six months experience in related field (e.g. education, human services, law enforcement).
  • Successful completion of Detention Workers Academy within six (6) months of employment.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors the work performance of Relief staff and volunteers, if necessary.
  • Administers the food and laundry service on assigned shift.
  • Confers with Detention Officer II and/or shift supervisor to relate immediate need for supplies or procedural review.
  • Directs the securing of all data gathered during intake process and distributes detainee clothing during intake.
  • Completes all paperwork necessary for intake and as related to release.
  • Demonstrates ability to interact in a positive manner while monitoring juveniles in the detention setting, during mealtimes, and recreation periods.
  • Operates manual control board while responding appropriately to incoming phone calls, detainee needs, and visitation.
  • Exercises defines discipline standards relating to minor and major juvenile infractions per policy manual.
  • Acts as liaison between volunteers, relief staff, and the Director of Detention.
  • May operate JUVIS computer in the form of daily detention reports and may supervise or perform fingerprint process as needed upon intake.
  • Performs other assigned tasks as requested by Detention Officer II, III or the Director of Detention.
