About The Position

This position is with the Eddy County Detention Center and is the senior supervisor on each shift. The Lieutenant is responsible for the safe operation of the detention center within the bounds of current statutes, policy and procedures, and nationally accepted practices in corrections. The employee must perform all duties with minimal supervision. Employee may be required to work irregular hours, report for duty 15 minutes prior to and after shift for briefing purposes, attend job-related meetings in and out of town, and perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must submit a driving record dated within the last 30 days.
• Must print, complete, and upload a notarized waiver.
• Must print, complete, and upload the Veterans' Form.

Responsibilities

• Be proficient in the operation of all areas of the detention center and able to perform the duties of all posts should the need arise.
• Make routine inspections of the facility to ensure the safety of staff and inmates.
• Investigate inmate and subordinate complaints.
• Assign staff as needed and make changes to staff assignments when situations arise.
• Prepare required reports.
• Promote teamwork and training with all staff.
• Notify superiors and appropriate enforcement agencies when emergency or unusual situations occur.
• Ensure that subsequent shifts are informed of inmate problems and any staff or inmate situations that could affect the operation of the facility.
