Fort Bend County is seeking a Detention Deputy for the Sheriff's Office. This role may be assigned duties in Transport, Utility, Food Service, and Bailiff Department. The Detention Deputy is responsible for maintaining custody and a safe environment for inmates and staff. The position involves conducting regular checks, searches, classifying inmates, restraining inmates when necessary, and maintaining the facility. Responsibilities also include supervising inmate activities, preparing reports, filing criminal charges, assisting other employees, and serving as an interpreter if bilingual. The role requires logging inmate activities for litigation prevention, notifying supervisors of criminal activity or escape attempts, recognizing signs of abuse, and participating in emergency management activities during a local state of disaster. All applicants must schedule and complete the Nelson-Denny Reading Test prior to moving forward in the hiring process.
